The Religion Of Serial Child Abuse

Superstition Was At Its Bizarre Best in Sholapure, Maharashtra

Children Were Thrown From 50Ft Height in a Durga in the Sholapur – District Administration Was Mute Spectator.

It was bizarre, disgusting, inhuman and cruel religious practice of throwing new born children from a height of 50ft from the 4th floor, in what was called 700 year old religious ritual being practices year after year on the belief that would bring health and prosperity to the children.

This has happened in a Durga in Sholapur, where 400 parents stood in que to witness the ritual of throwing their children from the height of 50ft. with no fear whatsoever on their faces. As I watched the clippings, I had my heart in my mouth. How could any sane man accept that throwing of children from a height of the 4th floor, would make them healthy and bring prosperity? It was certainly not a religious Islamic practice but a superstitious one. What if the perpetrators were Muslims? They too were the victims of superstition and all men honour should condemned it in strongest terms. I join with them in expressing my deep anguish besides condemning it.

I do not know the name of Sufi Saint buried there in the Durga, where Muslim and Hindu parents came in large number to witness the annual ritual of risking the lives of their children. What was intriguing was the callousness with which the district administration has been allowing these practices to take place year after year. It was not a sudden development, it is happening for the last 700 years.

Why was the police present there failed to stop this ritual? A Police Sub-Inspector spoke to the HT reporter in front of the camera and said that it was a ritual practiced year after year and that no accident or mishap was reported. Even both Muslim and Hindu parents were seen talking to the reporters with a smile on their faces, saying that they had no fear for the lives of their wards, as their firm religious belief was that it would bring good health to the children and prosperity to their families. This is happening in 21st Century and that to in a Muslim tradition, is more unfortunate.

Indian rights activists blast baby-dropping ritual

Rights activists lashed out at local officials who allowed hundreds of infants to be dropped from the roof of a mosque in western India in the belief that the fall — which ends when the babies are caught in a bedsheet — would ensure good health and prosperity for their families.

The ritual at the Baba Umer Durga, a Muslim shrine, is believed to have been followed for nearly 700 years, and each year hundreds of people, both Hindus and Muslims, take part in the ritual.

Local officials told television news stations Friday that there had been no reports of injuries.

The infants, mostly under two years old, were dangled Thursday from the roof of the shrine near Sholapur, about 450 kilometers (280 miles) south of Mumbai, before being dropped about 50 feet (15 meters) onto a bedsheet held aloft by parents and other believers.

Television channels showed the babies screaming as they were shaken in the air before being dropped.

With high child mortality rates, especially in India’s rural areas, many people resort to rituals which they believe can ensure their children’s health.

/gee, why adopt 21st century child welfare methods like proper pediatric care and vaccinations, when child abuse, ignorance, and superstition have worked so well for 700 years?

Unfair Advantage

This shouldn’t be allowed, period.

SEC Probes Flash Orders to Ensure Fair Access to Data (Update3)

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is examining so-called flash orders to ensure equity markets aren’t putting investors at a disadvantage by giving some brokerages advance knowledge about trades.

“The SEC staff is specifically examining flash orders to ensure best execution and fair access to information for all investors,” John Nester, a spokesman for the regulator, said today.

Charles Schumer, the third-ranking Democrat in the U.S. Senate, told the SEC to review flash orders in a July 24 letter. Nasdaq OMX Group Inc., Bats Global Markets, Direct Edge Holdings LLC and the CBOE Stock Exchange give information to their clients about orders for a fraction of a second before the trades are routed to rival platforms. The systems are meant to give investors an additional opportunity to complete a trade.

Last month, SEC Chairman Mary Schapiro said the agency is concerned that electronic indications of bids and offers are being disseminated to a select group of brokerages. She also said it would examine dark pools, private electronic markets operated by brokerages that don’t publicly post quotes.

The review appears unlikely to lead the SEC to impose curbs on other forms of high-speed trading, NYSE Euronext Chief Executive Officer Duncan Niederauer said today, citing discussions with regulators. NYSE Euronext, the world’s largest owner of stock exchanges, told the SEC in May that flash orders result in most investors getting worse prices.

No Fear

“I don’t think there is any fear of them doing something that would severely damage the displayed liquidity on U.S. equity markets,” he said today in a conference call with analysts to discuss the New York-based company’s second-quarter results. “High-frequency trading is actually the most consistent source of liquidity.”

NYSE is building facilities in Mahwah, New Jersey, and near London to boost its capacity to handle high-speed trades. The company is spending about $500 million, the Wall Street Journal reported today, citing people familiar with the matter.

Analysts including Raymond James Financial Inc.’s Patrick O’Shaughnessy said this week that regulators’ response to flash orders might result in restrictions on computer-driven trading, which could hurt profit for exchanges.

Bats, Nasdaq Support

Bats CEO Joe Ratterman said today in an e-mail to clients that the Kansas City, Missouri-based exchange would support an industrywide ban on flash orders. Nasdaq CEO Robert Greifeld told Schumer July 28 that his company would also support a prohibition, according to a statement issued by the New York senator’s office.

Both introduced the systems over the past three months to compete against Direct Edge, the trading platform that has gained market share through its three-year-old Enhanced Liquidity Provider program.

Direct Edge, which is not a registered SEC exchange, more than doubled its market share since November to 11.9 percent of the total volume in the U.S. in June by using revenue from its ELP program to cut other trading fees. The ELP program accounted for 8 percent of the shares handled by Direct Edge.

“If regulators get rid of it, or do anything to significantly circumscribe the program, it will hurt Direct Edge and help Nasdaq and NYSE,” Justin Schack, vice president of market structure analysis at New York-based Rosenblatt Securities Inc., said in an interview. “It takes away a big competitive weapon that Direct Edge used to gain market share.”

Wall Street and the World of Flash Stock Trades

High Frequency Trading

The computers have become traders in just the last few years, say market people. One particularly visible part of what they do is called High Frequency Trading, in which machines, programmed to look for market trends, may buy or sell a stock in milliseconds.

A subset of this phenomenon is known as “flash trading,” in which stock exchanges let firms place super-fast orders to buy or sell stocks — often based on information they receive a fraction of a second before the rest of the world does. Large firms pay fees for the advance information, and may be able to profit by moving so quickly.

Obama’s Science Advisor On Science

Obama’s Science Czar Said a Born Baby ‘Will Ultimately Develop Into a Human Being’

President Obama’s top science adviser said in a book he co-authored in 1973 that a newborn child “will ultimately develop into a human being” if he or she is properly fed and socialized.

“The fetus, given the opportunity to develop properly before birth, and given the essential early socializing experiences and sufficient nourishing food during the crucial early years after birth, will ultimately develop into a human being,” John P. Holdren, director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, wrote in “Human Ecology: Problems and Solutions.”

Holdren co-authored the book with Stanford professors Paul R. Ehrlich and Anne H. Ehrlich. The book was published by W.H. Freeman and Company.

At the time “Human Ecology” was published, Holdren was a senior research fellow at the California Institute of Technology. Paul Ehrlich, currently president of The Center for Conservation Biology at Stanford, is also author of the 1968 bestseller, “The Population Bomb,” a book The Washington Post said “launched the popular movement for zero population growth.”

“Human Ecology: Problems and Solutions” argued that the human race faced dire consequences unless human population growth was stopped.

Jihad, Made In America

Seven Face Terrorism Charges in N.C.

Federal prosecutors in North Carolina accused six U.S. citizens and a permanent resident Monday of conspiring to provide material support to foreign terrorists and to commit murder overseas. The charges come as part of a long-running investigation into Raleigh area men who stockpiled a cache of assault weapons.

At the center of the ring is Daniel P. Boyd, 39, who trained in terrorist camps in Pakistan and Afghanistan in the 1980s before fighting the Soviet Union, authorities said. Boyd, a Muslim convert, returned home and three years ago allegedly began recruiting a group of men to wage jihad.

Also known as “Saifullah,” or sword of God, Boyd raised money to send his acolytes on a visit to the Middle East, according to an indictment handed up by a grand jury last week and unsealed Monday.

Gaza campers stage ‘Schalit abduction’

Children in Hamas summer camps reenacted the abduction of IDF soldier Gilad Schalit in the presence of top Hamas officials, according to pictures obtained by The Jerusalem Post.

According to Israeli defense officials, more than 120,000 Palestinian children are spending the summer in Hamas-run camps. In addition to religious studies, the children undergo semi-military training with toy guns.

At a recent summer camp graduation ceremony, the children put on a show reenacting the June 2006 abduction of Schalit. Present was Osama Mazini, a senior Hamas political leader, who is in charge of the Schalit negotiations with Israel on behalf of the terrorist group.

In one picture, obtained by the Post, Mazini is seen standing next to Ahmad Bahar, the acting speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council, distributing Korans to camp counselors.

“This sends a message,” one Israeli defense official said, regarding Mazini’s participation at the ceremony. “This is Hamas’s way of showing Palestinian children that kidnapping soldiers is the correct way of life.”

Obama: ‘Victory’ Not Necessarily Goal in Afghanistan

“I’m always worried about using the word ‘victory,’ because, you know, it invokes this notion of Emperor Hirohito coming down and signing a surrender to MacArthur,” Obama told ABC News.

That’s nice, he’s frantically looking for the Afghanistan exit door. Those have to be encouraging words for the troops on the ground getting shot at and blown up, Mark my words, the Taliban will be back in control of Afghanistan before Obama leaves office.

The First Rule Of Holes

Officer accused of profiling in Gates case taught academy cadets how not to

Cambridge Police Sergeant James M. Crowley has spent the past five years teaching a class at the Lowell Police Academy to Cambridge and Lowell police cadets about how to avoid racial profiling, according to Thomas Fleming, academy director.

The academy teaches prospective officers from both departments under an agreement.

Fleming said Cambridge’s former police commissioner, Ronnie Watson, hand-picked Crowley and another officer, who is black, to jointly teach the class to about 60 cadets each year. The course meets four times a year, for three hours a session.

“He’s very well respected,” said Fleming, a Lowell police sergeant who has run the academy for 14 years. “He gets a very high evaluation from all the students. In my opinion, he’s a good role model for young officers. He’s a good cop. That’s the type of person you want in a police academy.”

Fleming said it was a “very good assumption” that Watson picked Crowley because he was sensitive to the dangers of racial profiling.

We Spent More Than $50 Billion And All We Got Was This Lousy Perfume

Unbelievable.

New GM to launch fragrance line

It’s not the smell of the interior of a new luxury model, the whiff of gasoline or even the aroma of burning rubber.

It’s much more. It’s the luminous fresh scent from grapefruit and camomile and a mix of geranium, tarragon and cinnamon – plus sweet spice and incense.

Think of “Cadillac, the new fragrance for men.”

Sputtering General Motors Co., just out of a quick drive through bankruptcy court, will soon be using its iconic Cadillac brand to sell a line of fragrance for men.

Beauty Contact Inc., a Dubai-based cosmetic company and holder of the fragrance licence, said yesterday it will launch the Cadillac line in stores this fall to mark the brand’s 100th anniversary.

“Cadillac, the new fragrance for men is part of the recent Cadillac renaissance: Hot new products and redesigns that capture the mantra of life, liberty and the pursuit,” said Alwyn Stephen, a Beauty Contact director.

“Our fragrance is a relevant extension of the Cadillac lifestyle.”

The line includes a spray, aftershave lotion, deodorant stick, hair and body wash. Some products will come in translucent glass bottles with sleek metal caps. The retail price for a 100 millilitre bottle of the eau de toilette fragrance will be $73.

“The design pays tribute to the opulence and extravagance of past eras, as well as the luxury and ease of today,” the firm added.

But marketing expert Alan Middleton, a York University professor, said it’s a bad example of brand extension and indicative of a troubled company. In the past, GM has licensed fragrances for Hummer, Chevrolet and Corvette.

“Anybody who knows anything much about branding would know this is about as bad an idea as when Roots tried to brand an airline,” Middleton said.

“Neither Porsche nor BMW nor any other transportation brand that has tried this silliness has been very successful.”

This is what we paid tens of billions of dollars for? This is how Obama runs a car company? They can’t even make the damn perfume in the United States! Oh yeah, remember Chrysler, the car company that Fiat bought and that the American taxpayer owns a chunk of?

Fiat 2nd-Quarter Net Loss EU168 Million; Analyst Est EU158.4 Mln

Fiat SpA, the Italian carmaker that took control of Chrysler LLC, reported a net loss of 168 million euros in the three months ended June 30, compared with net income of 604 million euros a year earlier, it said in a statement today.

That was higher than the average estimate of five analysts compiled by Bloomberg, which showed a 158.4 million-euro loss.
