The Most Powerful Solid Rocket Motor Ever Canceled

You don’t really think that Obama will actually let the most powerful solid-fuel rocket engine ever produced ever become part of the U.S. space program, do you?

Ares I Five-Segment SRB Lights Up

NASA and Alliant Techsystems (ATK) conducted the second test of the fully developed Ares five-segment solid rocket motor, known as Development Motor-2 (DM-2), on Aug. 31 at ATK’s test facility in Promontory, Utah.

With a roar that reverberated across the surrounding countryside and a blowtorch-bright light, the DM-2 came to life on schedule at 9:27 a.m. MDT. The 2-min. 5-sec. test checked out key design elements of the Ares rocket, which the Obama administration wants to cancel in favor of nurturing commercial means of carrying crew and cargo to low Earth orbit.

The firing of the motor was conducted to collect data on 53 different test objectives. Some of the elements tested include the new insulation, the redesigned rocket nozzle and the motor casing’s liner. When activated, the DM-2 produced about 3.6 million lb. of thrust, equaling 22 million hp. The motor was instrumented with 760 sensors to collect performance data.

At T-0, the engine was ignited and the propellant from the nozzle of the DM-2 sent out a jet of flame. The eruption that followed produced a visible shock wave.

ACLU And CCR Heart Anwar Al-Awlaki

As usual, the ACLU and CCR are defending the enemies of the United States. Has there ever been a terrorist they didn’t like? This time, they’re upset about “targeted killing”, you know, killing enemy combatants during wartime, what a novel concept, never before seen in the history of warfare.

Anwar al-Awlaki: ACLU wants militant cleric taken off US ‘kill list’

Two US civil rights groups are asking a federal judge to halt an alleged Obama administration plan to kill an American citizen believed to be allied with Al Qaeda and hiding in Yemen.

The Center for Constitutional Rights and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed the lawsuit Monday in Washington. It asks US District Judge John Bates to order the government not to carry out the alleged plot to conduct a targeted killing of Anwar al-Awlaki.

Mr. Awlaki is a militant Islamic lecturer who used the Internet to spread the ideology of Al Qaeda. Born in the US and educated at American colleges, Awlaki has provided a bridge between militants overseas and some radical Muslims based in the US.

He is reported to have encouraged Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan. He allegedly helped train Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, who has been charged with attempting to blow up an airliner on Christmas Day, and is said to have inspired would-be Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad.

According to the lawsuit, US officials placed Awlaki’s name on a “kill list” in early 2010. The suit says that American officials are using secret criteria to determine who goes on the list.

The evidence is overwhelming that Anwar al-Awlaki is a self-confessed al Qaeda operative with American blood on his hands, also known as a sworn enemy of the United States. Al-Awlaki puts out his own internet videos professing as much! As an enemy combatant on the global battlefield, he’s entitled to a bullet in the head, not his Fourth Amendment rights.

Last week, all the major indexes lost ground. The Nasdaq was down 1.2%, the S&P 500 gave up 0.7%, the Dow lost 0.6% and the NYSE composite faltered 0.3%. Tuesday’s move down in higher volume threw the IBD outlook back to “market in correction”. Raise cash, don’t let gains turn into losses, don’t take any loss more than 7-8%, and sit tight until the next uptrend presents itself. Now is not the time to be making new stock purchases.

With the market in correction, none of the watch list stocks can be considered as buy candidates.

Obama’s Continuing War On Arizona

This is the most despicable and ridiculous salvo yet in Obama’s all out assault on Arizona. Ratting out Arizona’s attempt to enforce existing Federal immigration law as a violation of human rights, to the U.N. Human Rights Commission, an unfunny joke of a U.N. panel packed with some of the planet’s worst human rights violators, who’s insane, crazy, warped idea was this travesty? It’s just stunningly, mind boggling, staggeringly, jaw dropping bizarre and stupid. Forget about Arizona’s state sovereignty, what the hell happened to the United States’ national sovereignty? What the [expletive deleted] is wrong with the Obama administration?

Brewer demands Clinton remove Arizona from human rights report

Arizona GOP Gov. Jan Brewer is demanding that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton remove an Arizona passage from the State Department’s report on human rights in America.

The State Department said in its report (PDF) that Arizona’s immigration law “has generated significant attention and debate at home and around the world” and that the federal government was taking action in court against it.

In a letter to Clinton (PDF), Brewer called the inclusion “downright offensive.”

“The idea of our own American government submitting the duly enacted laws of a State of the United States to ‘review’ by the United Nations is internationalism run amok and unconstitutional,” she writes.

So, to recap, the Obama administration submitted a report to the U.N. Human Rights Council, claiming that Arizona was committing human rights violations by enforcing U.S. immigration law.

/and, as if that isn’t bad enough, some of the members of the Human Rights Council, the entity to which the report was submitted and which will stand in judgment, are such noted world champions of human rights as China, Cuba, Egypt, Pakistan, Qatar, Russia, and Saudi Arabia, just utterly unbelievable and unconscionable

Don’t Let The Bedbugs Bite

Bedbugs, once virtually eradicated in the United States, are making a comeback, thanks EPA!.

EPA to Blame for Bedbug Problems?

How long until we see a bedbugs horror movie on the big screen? With the nasty critters invading everything from movie theaters in Times Square to lingerie stores and hotels, there’s a damn near panic brewing over the tiny blood-suckers.

With bedbug infestations up 71 percent since 2001 at hotels and cases popping up across the country, people are starting to wonder: just how did this happen? Considering that the bugs have come back in part because of their increased resistance to available pesticides and a general cluelessness on how to effectively get rid of them because of their long absence, it’s hard to say.

But one target of the welt-covered masses is an unlikely suspect: the Environmental Protection Agency. It seems that some scientists and victims believe that after eradicating the nasty critters between World War II and the mid-1990s, bedbugs have staged a huge comeback after the Clinton-era Congress passed a major new pesticides law in 1996 that banned a number of chemicals that had been reliable bed bug killers.

Though the long-banned DDT is not a culprit – since the bugs had already developed a tolerance for that nasty chemical – the banning of such pesticides as Malathion and Propoxur may have contributed to the new wave of infestations. Now, leaders such as Ohio governor Ted Strickland are trying to get a waiver from the EPA to use the compounds to combat one of the country’s worst outbreaks in cities such as Cincinnati, Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio.

‘Personal dispute’ erupts into deadly battle

A SENIOR member of the radical Shiite movement Hezbollah has died in a street battle involving machineguns and rocket-propelled grenades in Beirut.

The clash, lasting around four hours, was the worst outbreak of violence in the Lebanese capital since May 2008, when about 100 people were killed in a power struggle between Hezbollah and the ruling Sunni coalition.

Three people were killed and several were wounded in the latest fighting which took place in a quiet neighbourhood a few blocks from the city centre.

Soldiers cordoned off the area during the worst of the fighting, but witnesses said sniper fire and blasts from the rocket-propelled grenades were audible until well after 11pm on Tuesday.

Gunmen stood on corners peering down alleys while families ran for cover during lulls in the fighting.

Ambulances rushed to the scene; an elderly man, clutching his neck, was placed on a stretcher, while another man was covered in blood and not moving.

The shootout erupted between the Shiite Hezbollah and the Sunni al-Ahbash group following a fight outside a mosque in the mixed residential area of Bourj Abu Haidar, Lebanese officials said.

A joint statement issued later by the two groups said the incident resulted from a ”personal dispute and has no political or sectarian background”.

It said the two sides agreed to put an end to their differences and end all armed presence on the street.

The government said Mohammed Fawaz, a Hezbollah official from the area, and his aide, Munzer Hadi, were killed along with Fawaz Omeirat of al-Ahbash.

Recovery Summer My Ass!

For weeks now, all the economic data have painted a grim picture of an economy that’s rapidly grinding to a halt. And yet Obama, Biden, and the rest of the Clown Car Club Democrats swear up and down, with supposedly straight faces, that the economy is turning around and is headed in the right direction. Either they’re deliberately lying or they’re incompetently insane, take your pick.

/Michael Ramirez

‘Recovery Summer’ goes bust

Declaring a “Recovery Summer” victory tour at the start of June must have looked like a pretty safe wager for the Obama administration. The economy seemed to have shifted firmly into gear during spring. Lawrence Summers, director of the National Economic Council, told the Financial Times in early April that the economy was “moving toward escape velocity. You hear a lot less talk of ‘W’-shaped recoveries and double-dips than you did six months ago.”

A big reason for White House optimism was a stronger job market. The economy added an average of 320,000 net new jobs a month during March, April and May, about half of them in the private sector. Granted, the unemployment rate still hovered close to 10 percent. But if the economy kept growing at a 3 percent annual clip or greater — creating lots and lots of new jobs in the process — unemployment would eventually fall, perhaps dramatically.

Since then, however, the economy has fallen back to Earth, and “Recovery Summer” looks more like a bad bet. Private sector job growth has fallen by two-thirds, and the unemployment rate is still at a sky-high 9.5 percent. And if the size of the U.S. work force, as measured by the Labor Department, had stayed constant since April — instead of shrinking by a million — the unemployment rate would be 10.4 percent. Jobless claims are at their highest level since February. Worse yet, the expansion is decelerating. After growing by 5.7 percent in the final quarter of 2009 and 3.7 percent in the first quarter of 2010, gross domestic product advanced by just 2.4 percent from April through June, according to the Commerce Department.

So, what’s Obama’s plan to restore positive economic momentum, where’s the leadership? Aside from blaming Bush, who left office a year and a half ago, and the Republicans at every opportunity, it appears Obama doesn’t have a plan, he’s AWOL on the economy, he has no idea what to do or what needs to be done. In fact, all the policy he has so far foisted upon the country has been economically counterproductive and has created nothing but market confusion and uncertainty.

Last week, the indexes meandered to a mixed finish near the flat line in slow August volume. The Nasdaq squeaked out a 0.3% gain, the Dow slipped 0.9%, and both the S&P 500 and NYSE composite each lost 0.7%. With no clear marked direction evident, the IBD outlook remains “uptrend under pressure”. It’s probably best to wait to see if the uptrend resumes before buying stocks.

However, if you’re adventurous, two stocks on the watch list are possible buy candidates. CMG, is trading at $149.84 with a buy point of $154.53. HMIN, trading at $44.23, found support at its ten week line and is in buy range up to $47.51.
