ESPN drops Hank Williams Jr. from ‘Monday Night Football’

After ESPN dropped Hank Williams Jr. from opening Monday Night Football tonight after Williams’ controversial comments Monday about President Obama, the singer now says he was “misunderstood.”

Says ESPN, in a statement: “While Hank Williams Jr. is not an ESPN employee, we recognize he is closely linked to our company through the opening to Monday Night Football. We are extremely disappointed with his comments, and as a result have decided to pull the open from tonight’s telecast.”

Williams, perhaps best known for his “are you ready for some football?” lead-in to ESPN’s Monday Night Football, Monday compared this summer’s so-called golf summit between Obama and House Speaker John Boehner as “one of the biggest political mistakes ever.”

As Williams put it on Fox News’ Fox & Friends: “It would be like Hitler playing golf with (Israeli leader) Benjamin Netanyahu.”

How are we supposed to get ready for some football now?

Can you say overreaction by ESPN? Putting aside for a minute that Hank never actually, directly compared Obama to Hitler, if you watch the video it’s pretty obvious that Hank is high on something more than just life. Cut the dude some slack, he’s survived a traumatic brain injury, he’s a musician, musicians spout all sorts of bizarre thoughts aloud. Bring the song back, it’s a decades long tradition, Monday Night Football is pretty lame without it.

Whitewashing The Jihad

So, the Park Police find Yonathan Melaku lurking near the Pentagon and he tells them that he’s carrying explosives. When they search Melaku’s car, the police find written material sympathetic to al Qaeda. What little tidbit of information is missing from almost every mainstream media news account? The fact that Yonathan Melaku is a Muslim is systematically omitted. Why might that be?

Losing His Religion

There was a terror scare at the Pentagon this morning. As CBS News reports, it started when the U.S. Park Police “came upon” 22-year-old Yonathan Melaku wandering around Arlington National Cemetery, which was closed. “The Park Police then launched a search for a vehicle, which was found near the Pentagon.”

A search of the car turned up “no suspicious items,” but Melaku told the cops “that he was carrying explosive materials.” They checked his backpack and “found what appeared to be an unknown quantity of ammonium nitrate,” a chemical “that is widely used in fertilizers and can be used in explosives with the correct concentration.”

We learn from the CBS story that Melaku is a lance corporal in the Marine Reserves. The Associated Press adds that he is a naturalized American citizen, originally from Ethiopia. CBS also reports that “Melaku was carrying a notebook that contained the phrases ‘al Qaeda,’ ‘Taliban rules’ and ‘Mujahid defeated croatian forces’ when he was detained,” but “that the suspect is not thought to have been involved in a terrorist act or plot.”

All of which raises an obvious question–but one that goes unanswered in the reports from CBS and AP, as well as others from ABC News and the Washington Post. We could only find one news organization that had the answer: Fox News Channel, which reports that Maliku is Muslim.

Al Qaeda is a Muslim terrorist organization dedicated to the destruction of Western civilization. Virtually all terrorism worldwide is carried out by Muslims. Yonathan Melaku is found near the Pentagon, carrying “explosives” and written material referencing al Qaeda, and yet every single news organization, save one, blatantly ignores the fact that Melaku is a Muslim. How is that fact not relevant to the strory?

If Melaku had been a Christian, you can bet your ass that it would be first paragraph, front page news. When does news journalism become agenda driven, politically correct propaganda and deliberately biased misinformation? Perhaps the bigger question is why the news organizations engage in this deception by omission, what drives it, is it coordinated and, if so, by who or what and on what level and for what purpose?

/willfully ignoring and whitewashing the very real existential threat of Islamic terrorism does not make it go away, it only makes it harder for us to defend ourselves

Government Spending: Did anyone really think $787 billion would be enough to quench the Democratic Congress’ thirst for play money from the taxpayers? Now they want $410 billion more.

In addition to solar water heaters for rural Puerto Rico and the Raul Alvarez Golf Course in Austin, Texas, Obama administration sources say the U.S. is also planning to relieve taxpayers of $900 million for Gaza, much of which can be expected to land in the pockets of the terrorist group Hamas, which runs the region.

To a family being foreclosed on, or a businesswoman forced by tough times to close up shop, this doesn’t exactly signal that Uncle Sam is in solidarity with you.

The new spending bill is an 8% increase over last year and the largest discretionary spending increase since Jimmy Carter. President Bush refused to go along with what Congress was demanding for fiscal 2009, so now it has clumped the items previously denied into a $410 billion monster. The House of Representatives will vote on it this week, and the Senate is expected to follow soon after.

Amid the measure’s sneaky fine print is a provision to ax Washington, D.C.’s innovative school choice program. House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, called it “an irresponsible and shameful act on the part of the Democratic leadership in Congress, and the children of the District of Columbia deserve better.”

Is it any wonder House Speaker Nancy Pelosi won’t make spending legislation available online ahead of time so Americans can scrutinize it line by line?

Remember, this feeding frenzy at the porkfest trough, which contains 8500-9000 earmarks, is in addition to last week’s Porkapalooza and before Congress starts working on Obama’s first budget.

Of course Obama, on numerous occasions, has pledged to reform the earmark pork process.

“We need earmark reform,” Obama said in September during a presidential debate in Oxford, Miss. “And when I’m president, I will go line by line to make sure that we are not spending money unwisely.”

So, will Obama keep his word and cut out the pork? Hell no, he’ll sign it as is! His excuse?

“It will be a little embarrassing for the president if he signs a bill with that many earmarks on it,” said Stan Collender, a veteran Washington budget analyst. “He’ll say they’re left over from the Bush years, and he as to say that next year the bill will be clean.”

In fact, that’s exactly the excuse Obama thug David Axelrod used on Fox News last night, after Obama’s speech, when asked that very question. This $410 billion appropriations bill is left over from the Bush administration and that the Obama administration is “looking forward”. In other words, this bill doesn’t count, it’s not on our watch, it’s not our problem.

/well, it is your problem because you and your descendants are going to pay for another big heaping helping of wasted pork spending, so bend over and assume the position yet again

Though moved especially by what Rosen called the “world-weary, drug-fueled existentialism of their later work,” the Secretary of State says she has always approved of the British Invasion.

“Well, like so many Beatles fans, it depends both on mood and stage of life. I have to confess … that the hand-clapping mode was what I first was captured by. ‘I Want to Hold Your Hand’ was an anthem, as you might imagine.”

Clinton named “Hey Jude” as her favorite Beatles song, praising its Biblical tone and seriousness — but she might have trouble heeding some of its “existential” lessons.

Hey, I’m a Beatles fan too, but “hand clapping” doesn’t readily come to mind when I think of I Want to Hold Your Hand , screaming yes, hand clapping no. Hey Jude has a Biblical tone? Wasn’t it written for Julian Lennon?

Clinton urges China to sustain U.S. economic support

Her plea was a reminder of the shifting balance of power between the longtime Western superpower and the Asian giant that finances its consumer and government spending with $1.9 trillion in foreign currency reserves.

“We are in the same boat,” she said. “Thankfully, we are rowing in the same direction, toward landfall.”

In an interview with Yang Lin of Shanghai-based Dragon TV, Clinton said the Chinese understand that the United States “has to take some drastic measures” with the stimulus package to restore American spending, which in turn will help revive Chinese exports.

By continuing to buy U.S. Treasury bonds, “the Chinese are recognizing our interconnections,” she said. She said that the purchases were a “very smart decision” because the bonds are safe and stable.

During her presidential campaign, Clinton had argued that reliance on Chinese bond purchases was making the U.S. dangerously dependent. She said China’s position as America’s “banker” was eroding the United States’ leverage with Beijing.

Well, I’m reassured, aren’t you?
