Aid And Comfort To The Enemy

Let’s see, China launches cyberattacks and conducts internet espionage against the United States 24/7/365 and our U.S. Department of Homeland Security is warning China about their vulnerabilities? WTF?

China’s Infrastructure Vulnerable to Cyber Attack

Software widely used in China to help run weapons systems, utilities and chemical plants has bugs that hackers could exploit to damage public infrastructure, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

The department issued an advisory on Thursday warning of vulnerabilities in software applications from Beijing-based Sunway ForceControl Technology Co that hackers could exploit to launch attacks on critical infrastructure.

China is not our friend, why are we feeding the hand that bites us? Why aren’t we keeping these discovered Chinese vulnerabilities to ourselves in case we might actually need to use them in the event of escalated hostilities with China?

/and just when did the DHS become the CDHS, Chinese Department of Homeland Security, protecting the homeland of a hostile country?

Definitely Not Mission Creep In A Not War

There’s nothing to see here, move along, it’s all just part of enforcing the U.N. mandated humanitarian no fly zone to, ahem, protect civilians. It’s definitely not ramping up NATO offensive military operations in support of one side in a civil war.

Liam Fox denies Apache strikes are a change of tactics

The Apaches hit targets near the Libyan town of Brega during the latest wave of Nato strikes against forces loyal to Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, the MoD said.

The Defence Secretary, epeaking at a security forum in Singapore, said that the use of British Apache attack helicopters in Libya was a logical continuation of the Nato-led military operation against Muanmar Gaddafi’s forces and did not mean that fighter jet attacks had failed.

“It’s not plan B at all,” said Dr Fox.

“The use of the attack helicopters is a logical extension of we have already been doing. We already have fast jets in action, this gives us a chance to target new targets in a way we weren’t able to do.

So now NATO is using attack helicopters, where the hell in U.N. Resolution 1973 is that authorized? The current NATO operations are now way beyond what was ever intended or mandated by the original, authorized, humanitarian U.N. mission. Seriously, can ground troops be far behind the attack helicopters?

/just how kinetic does a humanitarian kinetic military action have to get before one may dare call it direct, offensive, one sided, military intervention in a civil war?

Operation Cupcake

Too funny, the British go about fighting terrorism with attempted humor.

MI6 attacks al-Qaeda in ‘Operation Cupcake’

The cyber-warfare operation was launched by MI6 and GCHQ in an attempt to disrupt efforts by al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsular to recruit “lone-wolf” terrorists with a new English-language magazine, the Daily Telegraph understands.

When followers tried to download the 67-page colour magazine, instead of instructions about how to “Make a bomb in the Kitchen of your Mom” by “The AQ Chef” they were greeted with garbled computer code.

The code, which had been inserted into the original magazine by the British intelligence hackers, was actually a web page of recipes for “The Best Cupcakes in America” published by the Ellen DeGeneres chat show.

Of course, it would have been better if the cupcake recipes hadn’t been garbled but, nonetheless, well played!

/and hey, as long as MI6 has rooted themselves this deep into al Qaeda servers, why not a massive Hello Kitty campaign?

All They Wanna Do Is Kill Some Jews

Nothing to see here, move along, it’s just two devout Muslims practicing their ever so peaceful religion, Islam.

Terror plot against New York synagogue busted

Two men suspected of planning an attack on a Manhattan synagogue with guns and a grenade were arrested Wednesday, marking the end of a seven-month undercover operation by New York police officers.

The suspects, Ahmed Ferhani and Mohamed Mamdouh, were detained in midtown Manhattan after buying two loaded Browning semi-automatic pistols, one Smith & Wesson revolver, ammunition and a grenade, according to Police Commissioner Ray Kelly.

. . .

Both men’s voices were captured on audio recordings plotting the attacks, District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. said, but they had not selected which synagogue to target.

Neither man has been charged in connection with a terrorist cell. Both, however, were allegedly “committed to violent jihad,” telling police that they wanted to kill Jewish people and also hoped to attack New York’s Empire State Building, Vance said.

It’s just another day in the ongoing global jihad. They caught these two, but there’s millions more bloodthirsty Muslims worldwide, willing and wanting to act out violently on their ingrained, brainwashed, taught from birth, Islamic hatred of Jews and infidels.

/once again, remember, not all Muslims are terrorists, but 99% of terrorists are Muslim

Rockets Rejected!

Gee, I wonder if Hamas can get their money back for all the now impotent rockets they’re stockpiled.

Iron Dome intercepts first missiles from Gaza

Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system for the first time intercepted rockets fired from Gaza.

Ashkelon’s Iron Dome intercepted two rockets fired Thursday on the southern Israeli city. The unit had been set up three days earlier.

Last week’s first deployment of the $200 million system in Beersheba is being called an “operational trial” by the Israel Defense Forces. The deployment came earlier than expected due to a rise in attacks on southern Israel from Gaza.

One unit also is set up in Haifa; another soon will be put up in central Israel.

A Paradigm Shift?

So far so good, a perfect operational record for Iron Dome. However, like defending against terrorism in general, Iron Dome needs to intercept 100% of the rockets to be successful, the terrorist scumbags only need to get a lucky round through once.

/however, that said, it’s got to be pretty demoralizing for the Hamas cretins to know that every time they fire a rocket from Gaza, it’s likely to be rendered harmless and they’re likely to get pounded by the IDF, all pain for no gain

Night Dragon Strikes

How many intrusions by Chinese hackers does it take and how much technology data has to be stolen before U.S. companies start seriously defending themselves?

‘Sloppy’ Chinese hackers scored data-theft coup with ‘Night Dragon’

Chinese hackers who were “incredibly sloppy” still managed to steal gigabytes of data from Western energy companies, a McAfee executive said today.

“They were very unsophisticated,” said Dmitri Alperovitch, vice president of threat research at McAfee, speaking of the attackers. “They were incredibly sloppy, made mistakes and left lots of evidence.”

The attacks, which McAfee has dubbed “Night Dragon” and had tracked since November 2009, may have started two years earlier. They are still occurring.

Night Dragon targeted at least five Western oil, gas and petrochemical companies, all multinational corporations, said Alperovitch, who declined to identify the firms. Some are clients of McAfee, which was called in to investigate.

According to McAfee, the attacks infiltrated energy companies’ networks, and made off with gigabytes of proprietary information about contracts, oil- and gas-field operations, and the details on the SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) systems used to manage and monitor the firms’ facilities.

Repeat after me, China is not our friend. They don’t create innovative technology, they steal it. Hacking in China is a state-sponsored industry. Furthermore, the oil and gas industry is critical infrastructure, vital to our national security.

/these were unsophisticated attacks, meant only to steal data, and these energy companies couldn’t defend against them, what will happen when Chinese hackers unleash much more sophisticated attacks against our energy infrastructure, with the intent to inflict maximum damage and destruction?
