Driving While Female

In Saudi Arabia, it’s a crime, punishable by torture straight from the 7th century.

Saudi woman sentenced to 10 lashes for driving car, as religious establishment toughens stance

A Saudi woman was sentenced Tuesday to be lashed 10 times with a whip for defying the kingdom’s prohibition on female drivers, the first time a legal punishment has been handed down for a violation of the longtime ban in the ultraconservative Muslim nation.

Normally, police just stop female drivers, question them and let them go after they sign a pledge not to drive again. But dozens of women have continued to take to the roads since June in a campaign to break the taboo.

It’s bad enough that the Saudi oil ticks are so backward that they make their women wear bags in public, but now they’re going to flog a woman, for driving? How barbaric is that? Where’s the outcry from the feminists and human rights activists? If this was happening in Israel, there’d already be a U.N. Security Council resolution condemning it.

/the whole Lefty world was in a prolonged uproar, screaming torture and war crimes, because the United States waterboarded three scum of the Earth terrorists, which resulted in no permanent physical or psychological harm, can you just imagine if we had subjected them to lashing?

15 arrested in N.Y. Playland melee over head scarves

Two people were charged with felony assault and two police rangers were injured during a melee that broke out Tuesday at Playland Amusement Park when Muslim visitors became angry that the park was enforcing its ban on headgear by prohibiting the women from wearing their traditional head coverings on some rides.

The park was crowded with Muslims celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr, one of Islam’s two major holidays.

Police from at least nine agencies converged on the park after county police sought assistance in responding to the disturbance, which involved 30 to 40 people.

. . .

Parks officials “painstakingly” told the organizer about the headgear ban, said Tartaglia. But he said that the rules might not have been communicated by the organizer to some attendees.

As usual, when confronted with pesky infidel rules that conflict with Sharia law, Muslims get angry and indignant. And then they do what they do best, rampage and riot! Hey, at least no one was strapped with explosives, so it wasn’t as bad as it could have been.

Honk For Saudi Women

Seriously, what says 21st century like making your women wear bags and not allowing them to drive?

Saudi women encouraged to drive Friday

Saudi women are being encouraged to challenge the status quo and get behind the wheel Friday.

Though there are no traffic laws that make it illegal for women to drive in Saudi Arabia, religious edicts are often interpreted as a ban against female drivers. One female motorist spent more than a week in custody in May, supporters said.

The day is expected to be a test of wills — and authority — between police and the campaign, which has been publicized by Facebook, Twitter and other social media. It was not clear late Thursday how many would participate.

Of course, any woman who participates in tomorrow’s driving defiance event will most likely be arrested and punished for an activity most of the rest of the world takes for granted. I hope they have the courage to stand up for themselves and wish them good luck in their protest.

These Are Not The Drones You Seek

Mission creep, what mission creep? Who are you going to believe, Robert Gates and Obama or your own lying eyes? Why, exactly, are we in Libya again?

U.S. will deploy Predators in Libya

President Barack Obama has given U.S. forces the go-ahead to use armed Predator drones in Libya after forces loyal to Libyan leader Muammar Qadhafi changed their tactics in the fighting there, Defense Secretary Robert Gates announced Thursday.

“It’s an evolving situation. We saw an opportunity here and recommended it to the president. He took it,” Gates told reporters at a Pentagon briefing.

However, Gates said the use of the drones did not indicate that the U.S. was being sucked back into a military campaign that Obama has promised will be handled chiefly by other NATO countries and allied forces.

“This is a very limited addition on our part, but it does provide some additional capabilities to NATO,” Gates said. “I don’t think there’s mission creep at all….The primary strike role has been turned over to our allies, our friends.”

Now remember boys and girls, providing “additional capabilities to NATO” is not, I repeat, IS NOT mission creep. Um, it’s been at least a couple months now, whatever happened to “days, not weeks”?

Of course, the U.N. resolution we’re operating under only authorizes humanitarian efforts, so I’m sure these armed Predator drones will only be used to deliver food to civilians and stuff like that.

The Council stressed the need to intensify efforts to find a solution to the crisis that responded to the legitimate demands of the Libyan people, noting actions being taken on the diplomatic front in that regard. It further demanded that Libyan authorities comply with their obligations under international law and take all measures to protect civilians and meet their basic needs and to ensure the rapid and unimpeded passage of humanitarian assistance.

In that connection, the Council specified that the flight ban would not apply to flights that had as their sole purpose humanitarian aid, the evacuation of foreign nationals, enforcing the ban or other purposes “deemed necessary for the benefit of the Libyan people”.

I don’t know, what supposedly started out as a limited “kinetic military action” sure as hell seems to have blossomed over the weeks into the United States and NATO openly taking sides in a Libyan civil war.

/how is that not mission creep?

A Ban Too Far?

Sales of ‘Medal of Honor’ video game blocked on U.S. military bases

Small victory,” was all it said on the subject line of Karen Meredith’s e-mail.

But for the Silicon Valley military mom, who lost her son in the Iraq war, the decision this week by U.S. military base exchanges not to carry the controversial “Medal of Honor” video game was still great news.

“I’m thrilled,” said Meredith, whose son, Lt. Ken Ballard, perished in 2004. She has set off a storm of protest against Redwood City-based Electronic Arts and its “first-person shooter” game, which allows players to pretend they’re Taliban fighters killing American soldiers in Afghanistan. She applauded Maj. Gen. Bruce Casella, commander of the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, or AAFES, for the decision to keep the game out of its stores worldwide.

“I’ve heard from people all over the world, many of them upset about this game, so at least this has started a conversation,” she said. “And this country needs to have a conversation about the place of violent video games in our society, especially a game based on an ongoing war.”

Due out Oct. 12, “Medal of Honor” has drawn accolades from gamers and has been defended even by some U.S. soldiers. But it has unleashed howls of protest from families who have lost loved ones and even from Great Britain’s Secretary of State for Defence Liam Fox, who urged retailers to “ban this tasteless product.”

Electronic Arts spokesman Jeff Brown on Friday issued a statement that said in part: “The criticism of ‘Medal of Honor’ is disappointing because I can’t think of another interactive game that has gone to such lengths to convey respect for soldiers. From the very first day of development, the ‘Medal of Honor’ development team has been dedicated to creating an homage to the soldiers who fight the Taliban in Afghanistan.”

Saying EA feels “a deep sympathy and respect for the soldiers and people with family members killed or wounded in Afghanistan,” Brown wrote that “we don’t see a distinction between a film like ‘Hurt Locker’ and a game like ‘Medal of Honor.’ We don’t agree that it’s OK to depict the war in films and books, but not in games. We don’t see a moral difference.”

Obama Finds Ass To Kick, Boots More Jobs Than Oil Spill

******************************UPDATE******************************

******************************END UPDATE******************************

It’s bad enough that Obama’s economic policies don’t create any private sector jobs. Now, Obama, in his infinite inanity and in response to the fluke Gulf oil spill, decides that the best way to help the already hammered Gulf Coast economy is to voluntarly destroy thousands of more jobs in addition to those already lost to the effects of the oil spill. I’m not sure which man caused disaster is worse, the oil spill or Obama?

Gulf drilling ban expected to cost thousands of jobs, millions in pay

The White House extended its ban on new offshore drilling in the Gulf of Mexico and the North Slope of Alaska, along with an order to cease any ongoing deep sea drilling operations on Thursday, May 27, 2010. The six month moratorium is projected to result in the loss of approximately 46,000 jobs, according to a CNN Money report.

The White House decision was met with scrutiny from Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, who wrote a letter to President Obama Wednesday, June 2, 2010, stating that prohibiting deepwater drilling could result in the loss of 6,000 jobs for Louisianans for this month alone.

The ban requires all Gulf of Mexico wells in waters over 500 feet to shut down. It also bans any new permits from being issued for any new deepwater drilling anywhere. The White House changed the ban from 30 days to six months last week to allow for investigations into what caused the Deepwater Horizon oil rig to explode on April 20.

White House spokesman Ben LaBolt defended the moratorium, stating, “The President believes we must ensure that the BP Deepwater Horizon spill is never repeated,” and stressed that the Louisiana Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association ban is only for deep water drilling. Shallow water rigs are not subject to the ban.

Yep, while Obama “studies the problem” by day and party’s hardy with celebrities by night, the Gulf oil spill disaster worsens by the day and now he’s adding to the problem. Jobs are increasingly disappearing and, along with the drilling rigs that are now leaving the Gulf for work elsewhere, many are never coming back. It’s amazing, if a policy is absolutely wrong headed and devastatingly detrimental to the American economy, Obama is attracted to that policy and sticks to it like an energized electromagnet.

/yeah, Obama, the proverbial one legged man at the ass kicking contest, has found some ass to kick all right, OURS!

Russians Say Nyet To Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

MW2 SPOILER ALERT!

Russia bans Modern Warfare 2 over “airport terror” level

Modern Warfare 2 continues to be dogged by controversy, as its sales soar. While British MPs bicker about banning the game, Russia has done just that, removing it from sale and recalling all copies sold.

The Russian government pulled Modern Warfare 2 as a response to the Russian airport terror level, which we first revealed a few weeks back. But Russian gamers are also taking to gaming sites to attack developer Infinity Ward for its portrayal of their nation.

Infinity Ward will submit an edited version of the game within the month, hoping that the Russian government will be mollified enough to restore Modern Warfare 2 to the shelves. It has also removed the airport terror level entirely for Russian gamers.

Modern Warfare 2 sees Russia and America at war after the Russian Federation is taken over by a group of ultra-nationalists. Now what about that could possibly offend the Russians? Perhaps they should take a peep at the Modern Warfare 3 spoof instead.

Gee, now why would the Russian government be offended by this?
