Progress Fails To Make Progress

It’s been a really bad week for the Russians with two rocket failures in the last seven days and four failures total in less than a year.

Russian Progress space freighter lost

An unmanned freighter launched to the International Space Station (ISS) has been lost.

The Russian space agency said the Progress M-12M cargo ship was not placed in the correct orbit by its rocket and fell back to Earth.

The vessel was carrying three tonnes of supplies for the ISS astronauts.

. . .

It appears the Soyuz rocket’s third and final propulsion stage shut down early. As a result, the Russian federal space agency (Roskosmos) said, the Progress vessel “was not placed in the correct orbit”.

. . .

Officials reported the ship coming down in Russia’s Altai province, some 1,500km northeast of the launch site. A loud explosion was heard in the region and there were reports of windows being blown out, but it is not thought there were any injuries on the ground as a result of wreckage coming out of the sky.

It’s not that I was a big fan of the space shuttle, but if the Russians can’t get these recurrent rocket failure problems under control, there’s a possibility that the International Space Station might eventually have to be abandoned, because there’s currently no available alternative to supply the ISS. The ISS managers are putting on a brave face that they can manage the cargo loss, but losing three tons of scheduled resupply has just got to hurt.

Oh Boy, Look What Israel Found

I’m shocked I tell you, shocked, the peace loving Iranians caught smuggling illegal weapons to the peaceful people of Gaza, how can this be?

Israel Seizes Egypt-Bound Ship With Arms On Board

Israel announced Tuesday that its naval forces have intercepted and seized a cargo ship carrying weapons from Turkey to Egypt, adding that it believed the arms shipment originated in Iran and was destined for the Palestinian militants in Gaza.

Israeli officials said the ship was seized some 200 nautical miles west off the Israeli coast. An initial search of the seized vessel uncovered three containers loaded with arms and officials indicating the ship would be searched thoroughly after it reaches Israel.

The seized cargo ship was identified as “Victoria,” which according to Israeli officials had initially set off from the Syrian port of Lattakia to Mercin in Turkey. They said the vessel was seized when it was heading towards the Egyptian port of Alexandria from Turkey.

The Israeli officials, however, stressed that their initial investigations indicated that neither Turkey nor Egypt were involved in the arms shipment. They believe the countries involved in the shipment were Iran and Syria.

“The only certain thing is the source of the weaponry was Iran, and there was a Syrian relay station as well. This is the main axis that provides the forces of terror in Lebanon and Gaza,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Tuesday.

Now, why on Earth would Hamas, the government of Gaza, need sophisticated anti-ship missiles and why would Iran be supplying them? Nevermind, that was a rhetorical question, Iran and Hamas both want to wipe Israel off the map and exterminate all the Jews.

/and all the while, the Western governments just stand by cowering, like so many eunuchs, picking their collectives noses while they watch Iran develop nuclear weapons before their very eyes and do nothing to stop it, what are they waiting for, the mushroom cloud over Tel Aviv?

Unmanned capsule misses space station

An unmanned Russian cargo ship sailed past the International Space Station instead of docking on autopilot, as engineers on Earth struggle to determine what went wrong.

A telemetry lock between the Russian-made Progress module and the space station was lost and the module flew past at a safe distance. NASA said the crew was never in danger and that the supplies are not critical and will not affect station operations.

NASA said that it will not attempt another docking today. Russian flight controllers don’t know yet what caused the failure in the unmanned modules automated docking system.

The robotic cargo ship Progress 38 was slated to dock at the space station at 12:58 p.m. ET (1658 GMT) but lost its navigational lock on the orbiting lab about 25 minutes before the rendezvous.

“The Progress literally flew past the station, but at a safe distance from the outpost,” NASA commentator Rob Navias said. “The station crew reported seeing the Progress drift beyond their view, as they worked to reestablish telemetry with the spacecraft.”

The Progress 38 spacecraft flew by the space station at a distance of several kilometers (a couple miles) away, posing no threat of impact. But because of its orbit, there may not be a second chance to dock the spacecraft by remote control today, Navias said.

Known in Russia as Progress M-06M, the new Progress 38 spacecraft is packed with nearly 2.5 tons of fresh food, clothes, equipment and other supplies for the space station’s six-person crew. It launched Wednesday from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

I’m sure they’ll get this errant Progress under control and docked with the ISS. However, it’s worth noting that, after the last two Space Shuttles stop flying, there’s no plan B anymore, it’s the Russian spacecraft or nothing.

Here Comes The Second Wave Of Jew Haters Bent On Jihad Against Israel

******************************UPDATE******************************

Attackers of the IDF soldiers found to be Al Qaeda mercenaries

On board the Mavi Marmara ship that arrived as part of the flotilla to Gaza was a group of approximately 40 people with no identification papers, who are mercenaries belonging to the Al Qaeda terror organization. This was disclosed by the Israeli Security Cabinet, which gathered on Tuesday evening (June 1) for a special meeting.

According to intelligence disclosed during that meeting, the terrorists wore bullet-proof vests, and carried with them night-vision goggles, weapons, and large sums of cash. Each person in this group had the exact same amount of cash in his pockets. While the civilian protestors were sent to the lower deck during the Shayetet Naval Special Force’s interception of the ship, the group divided into cells and remained on the upper deck in order to attack the soldiers.

Shocka!

/”peace flotilla” my ass!

******************************END UPDATE******************************

After last weekend’s incident on board the Mavi Marmara which, unlike the the other five ships in the “peace flotilla”, was the only ship that refused to divert to the port of Ashdod, it’s clear that the “peace activists” aboard the Mavi Marmara weren’t much interested in bringing “much needed humanitarian aid” to Gaza because, as it turns out, there’s no shortage in Gaza of any of the supplies they were transporting. The truth is that, for the most part, those on board the Mavi Marmara were jihadists, comitted to the destruction of Israel, sent by a group with links to Al-Qaeda, with the sole intention of provoking the IDF and hating on the Jews.

A participant: “Right now we face one of two happy endings: either Martyrdom or reaching Gaza.” [Based on Islamic call before battle: “Either victory or Martyrdom”.]

/Michael Ramirez

But while The Israelis are busy in Ashdod deporting the jihadi Jew haters from the first wave of the armed with weapons “peace flotilla” and sending their unneeded cargo on to Gaza, here comes the second wave of Jew haters, just itching for their turn to provoke the IDF and hate on the Jews!

And what might be the name of their second “peace flotilla” flagship? Wait for it . . . drumroll please . . .

“Introducing the MV Rachel Corrie”

The 1200-ton cargo ship had been abandoned in July 2009, off the coast of Ireland. She was then impounded after an inspection by the International Transport Federation (ITF) discovered her owners had exploited their Lithuanian crewmembers – not paying their wages and subjecting them to humiliating treatment, and they had been left with just one day of food. The 42-year-old MV Linda languished for nine months, waiting in the port of Dundalk for just the right buyer to rescue her. http://www.flickr.com/photos/29205195@N02/

On March 31, 2010, the Free Gaza Movement bought her at auction for €70,000 and will send her to the imprisoned Palestinians of Gaza loaded with cement, paper, and medical equipment, all banned by Israel from this battered and bruised slice of the Mediterranean.

Ah, yes siree Bob, what could possibly be more perfect than a “peace flotilla” flagship named after that internationally famous, peace loving “peace activist” and rabid Jew hater, Rachel Corrie?

Activists on ‘Rachel Corrie’ undeterred by Israeli action

THE DELAYED Free Gaza Movement’s cargo ship Rachel Corrie yesterday assumed a holding position in the eastern Mediterranean, poised to make a fresh attempt to reach Israeli-blockaded Gaza.

Organiser Greta Berlin said the ship was waiting for Challenger II , a small passenger boat which suffered failure of its steering gear while preparing for the passage.

The two vessels, their crews and passengers are undeterred by the Israeli commando operation against the flotilla which cost the lives of nine passengers and climaxed in the detention of the other 679 on board.

The Rachel Corrie , which began its voyage in Ireland, was named after a young US woman killed by an Israeli bulldozer demolishing Palestinian homes in Gaza.

Among those on board are Nobel Prize laureate Mairead Maguire and former UN assistant secretary general Denis Halliday.

Ms Berlin said the ships would be picking up other human rights activists and journalists before attempting the passage which Israel has vowed to stop.

“Israel can haul the Rachel Corrie into Ashdod as it did the other boats or show goodwill to the world by allowing her to proceed to Gaza,” she stated.

Of course, the Rachel Corrie will never make it to Gaza and will end up in Ashdod with the rest of the “peace flotilla”, but the real mission will be nonetheless accomplished, provoke the IDF and hate on the Jews. Islamists, Lefties, and Lefty governments worldwide will be outraged that the Jew haters weren’t allowed to freely run a well publicized, long standing naval blockade of Gaza and condemn Israel for defending herself against weapons smuggling into Gaza, from which Hamas has launched thousands of rockets into Israel. And so it goes, same as it ever was.

/why is the IDF even bothering to try and board these ships after they refuse to stop, whatever happened to the tried and true practice of disabling the rudder and leaving it at that?

Where Oh Where Has The Arctic Sea Gone, Where Oh Where Can It Be?

What Happened to the Missing Ship ‘Arctic Sea’?

Russia’s president has ordered the Russian Navy to take part in the search for the cargo ship “Arctic Sea.” Manned by a Russian crew, the ship vanished two weeks ago off the coast of southern Europe.

President Dmitry Medvedev told Secretary of Defense Anatoly Serdyukov to “take all necessary measures to establish the whereabouts and to find the missing ship ‘Arctic Sea’ with a Russian crew on board, as well as to free [the ship’s crew], should such a need arise,” the Kremlin told Interfax on Wednesday.

The Arctic Sea is a 5,000-ton cargo ship that was carrying timber worth approximately $1.6 million from Finland to Algeria. It left port July 23, and the next morning was reportedly boarded in Swedish waters in the Baltic Sea by a band of masked hijackers in a high-speed rubber boat, who identified themselves as anti-drug police. The 15-man crew was tied up while the hijackers searched the ship.

After 12 hours, they apparently disembarked and sped away, breaking radio and other communications gear but without taking anything of value, the crew reported to the Maltese Maritime Authority, where the ship is registered. Instead of making port after the incident, the ship continued on its trip.

The ship was last heard from July 28, when it radioed the Dover, England, Coast Guard because it was approaching the English Channel. In a call the Coast Guard called routine, the ship said that it was en route to the Algerian port of Bejaia, where it was due to arrive Aug. 4. The last time its position was recorded by tracking equipment was July 30, when it was off the coast of the northern French town of Brest. On Aug. 2, the ship was spotted by Portuguese coastal patrol planes.

But the next day, Aug. 3, Interpol told the Dover Coast Guard that the ship had been hijacked more than a week before and asked the Coast Guard to stay vigilant. By that point, however, the ship had passed through the English Channel and had fallen off the radar.

Unless it sank, I find it hard to believe, in the age of satelites, that they can’t find a 300 ft. ship in the Atlantic. This whole episode is well within the realm of the bizzarre. The Russians cannot be happy about what’s happening. The resolution of this mystery should prove to be quite interesting, if we ever find out for sure.

/given the seemingly professional nature of the presumed piracy, I think we can safely say that whatever cargo the Arctic Sea was transporting, it sure as hell wasn’t timber
