A New World Record Pepper

They’re over ten times hotter than Habaneros.

Trinidad Scorpion Butch T Named World’s Hottest Chili Pepper

Late last year the Naga Viper was crowned the world’s hottest chili pepper. However only a few months later the Naga Viper has been dethroned as it was recently announced that the Trinidad Scorpion Butch T is now the world’s hottest chili pepper.

To determine the world’s hottest chili pepper, the peppers are graded on the Scoville scale which rates spice power by tracking the presence of a chemical compound in chilies. The Trinidad Scorpion Butch T recorded an impressive 1.45 million heat units on the scale which is slightly above the British Naga Viper (1.38 million). For those not familiar with the Scoville scale, the average jalapeno pepper clocks in at around 5,000 heat units.
