Where In The World Is Mohammed Omar?

Is Mullah Omar dead, alive, kidnapped by Western Intelligence, the ISI? No one seems to know, yet, or they’re not telling.

Afghanistan confirms of Taliban leader Mullah Omar’s disappearance

Afghanistan’s intelligence services on Monday confirmed that the one-eyed Taliban leader Mullah Omar, with a US$10 million bounty on his head, had disappeared from his Quetta hideout in Pakistan.

“We can confirm about the disappearance of Omar five days ago from his Pakistani hideout,” said Mashal, spokesman for the National Directorate of Security (NDS).

However, the NDS spokesman did not confirm a previous claim of an Afghan intelligence source of Omar’s assasination by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency.

Taliban, meanwhile, brushed off rumors of their leader’s death or disappearance.

Obviously, capturing Mohammed Omar alive and holding him in Western custody would be the ideal state of affairs here. Shot dead or blown to smithereens would be the second best outcome, although some concrete proof of death would be nice to have. And who’s going to believe the Taliban that he’s still alive and free without proof of life? In any case, every day Omar stays missing is a good day for civilized people everywhere. If Mullah Omar disappears into thin air and there’s no one around that knows where he is, is he still the Taliban leader?

/I wonder how long you have to be missing in Pakistan before you’re declared legally dead?

Proof Of Life

Well, this is certainly good news after four years without the slightest clue as to his whereabouts. That said, he’s not home until he’s home.

Years After Vanishing in Iran, US Man Proven Alive

Four years after a retired FBI agent mysteriously vanished inside Iran, U.S. officials have received irrefutable proof he is alive, a dramatic development that has sharply intensified diplomatic efforts to bring him home, The Associated Press has learned.

The U.S. had lacked reliable information about whether Robert Levinson was alive or dead since he disappeared in March 2007 from the Iranian island of Kish. It remains unclear who exactly is holding Levinson or where he is, but the proof that he is alive is a hopeful sign in a case that had seemingly gone cold.

The State Department issued a three-sentence statement by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton Thursday saying there were indications Levinson was in southwest Asia and asking Iran for help. The AP has learned fuller details after a lengthy investigation into Levinson’s disappearance and the effort to get him back to the U.S.

It’s a tough enough situation that Levinson is being held somewhere in southwest Asia, just about the last place on Earth that you’d want to be a prisoner, or that Iran is probably involved in his disappearance and is being asked to help secure his release, but what makes it tougher is that Obama and Hillary are apparently spearheading the effort to get Levinson back. Pardon me, but judging by their foreign policy performance over the last two years, their leadership doesn’t inspire a whole lot of confidence that they can pull off this repatriation without screwing it up. If I were the family, I’d rather be using a professional hostage negotiator to get Levinson back.

/anyway, despite the involvement of the Obama/Clinton foreign policy clown posse, as they say, even a blind squirrel gets a nut every now and then, let’s all hope and pray that Robert Levinson is safely returned to his family soon

All Your Iranian Nuclear Scientists Are Belong To US

What’s the matter Mahmoud, did you lose some nuclear scientists? Bummer, little dude.

Where did two Iran nuclear scientists disappear to?

Two Iranian nuclear scientists disappeared over the past weeks and allegedly defected to the West, the London-based pan-Arabic daily Asharq al-Awsat reported.

According to the report, the first defector is Sharam Amiri, a scientist in Iran’s nuclear program who was likely tied to the recently discovered secret uranium enrichment plant near the holy city of Qom.

Amiri disappeared in Saudi Arabia in July while he was on the hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.

Defection speculations have been gaining popularity in light of an announcement made by Iran’s foreign ministry that it had asked Saudi officials to help locate Amiri. This announcement is unusual because many Iranians go missing during the annual hajj pilgrimage, and in those cases, not only is there no foreign ministry announcement, usually there is no effort made to locate them, despite their families’ pleas.

The foreign ministry announcement indicates that Amiri may have a particularly sensitive position in the Iranian nuclear program.

The report regarding the second scientist is also strange. Asharq al-Awsat uses only his surname – Ardebili. He was allegedly arrested in Georgia a few weeks ago. Reports say that Ardebili worked in the Iranian nuclear program as well, but the Iranian foreign ministry fervently denies these claims, and maintains that Ardebili was a businessman who was extradited to the U.S. following his arrest.

If the report is correct and two scientists from Iran’s nuclear program indeed defected, it would be a harsh blow to Iran and its nuclear plans on the one hand, and a triumph on the part of Western intelligence on the other.
