Wal-Mart receipt has image of Jesus, couple says

An engaged couple in Anderson County says a shadowy image that turned up on a receipt from Walmart looks like the face of Jesus.

Jacob Simmons and his fiancee, Gentry Lee Sutherland, said they bought some pictures from Walmart on Sunday, June 12.

The following Wednesday, the couple had just come home from a church service when Simmons spotted the receipt on the floor of Sutherland’s apartment. He says the receipt had changed.

“I was leaving the kitchen and I just looked on the floor, and it was like it was looking at me,” Simmons said.

A dark gray mark on the receipt seems to show two eyes, a nose and a mouth in a thickly bearded face.

“Then the more you look at it, the more it looked like Jesus, and it was just shocking, breathtaking,” Simmons said.

Gandhi On Mars

Here’s something you don’t see every day. Do you believe?

Mahatma Gandhi’s face etched on Mars

An Italian space buff has claimed to have spotted the face of Mahatma Gandhi etched into the the rocks of Mars while scanning through latest pictures of the Red Planet.

Matteo Lanneo was surveying the amazing pictures sent from Europe’s Mars Orbiter back to Earth when he came across this uncanny resemblance to the father of the Indian nation, Daily Mail reported.

The head appears to have a moustache and shaven head and prominent eyebrows, just like Mahatma Gandhi, it quoted Lanneo as saying.

The Religion Of Pure Evil

Here we go again, back to the 7th century. It’s bad enough that these perpetually angry, ignorant and intolerant Islamic barbarians sentenced a women to death by stoning, for adultery, now they’ve sentenced a woman to death for blasphemy. Just how backward and uncivilized can a religion get?

Christian woman sentenced to death in Pakistan for blasphemy

A mother of two has become the first Christian woman in Pakistan to be sentenced to death for blasphemy.

Asia Bibi, a field labourer in her thirties, was handed the sentence by a court of sessions in Punjab province on Sunday evening.

She was found guilty of committing blasphemy against her fellow farm workers in the village of Ittanwali during a heated discussion about religion in June last year.

Some of the women workers had reportedly been pressuring Bibi to renounce her Christian faith and accept Islam. During the discussion, Bibi responded by speaking of how Jesus had died on the cross for the sins of mankind and asking the Muslim women what Muhammad had done for them.

The Muslim women took offence and began to beat Bibi and she was locked in a room by some men. According to partners of Release International, a mob reportedly formed and “violently abused” her and her children.

The charity, which supports persecuted Christians, said that blasphemy charges had been brought against Bibi because of pressure from local Muslim leaders.

Release International’s chief executive, Andy Dipper, expressed his shock at Sunday’s ruling.

“Pakistan has crossed a line in passing the death sentence on a woman for blasphemy,” he said.

The absolute intolerance and all consuming hate of these Islamofacists is shameful and sickening. Sentencing a woman to death for blasphemy, in the 21st century, are you kidding? No wonder Pakistan is such a [expletive deleted]hole epicenter of international terrorism. Can you imagine what would would happen if a court in a predominately Christian country sentenced a Muslim woman to death for blasphemy against Christianity? Not like that would ever happen, but Muslims worldwide would seethe and riot like the culturally inferior rabble that they are.

World Record Jesus

I’m not sure that this should be the object of competition but, apparently, it is.

Christ statue is worlds tallest

A HUGE statue of Jesus Christ — said to be the world’s tallest — has been put up in a small Polish town.

The controversial effigy stands at 33m (108ft), one metre for every year that Jesus lived, according to creator Reverend Sylwester Zawadzki.

With its gold crown, the white landmark is 36m (118ft) tall, and if the mound it stands on is also taken into account, it measures 51m (167ft).

Brazil’s famous Christ the Redeemer statue, the previous record holder, stands at 39.6m (130ft).

Mr Zawadzki, 78, the local priest in Swiebodzin, about 40 miles from the German border, said: “I have never been as happy as I am today.

“This is the culmination of my life’s work as a priest. I felt inspired to fulfil Jesus’ will, and today I give thanks to him for allowing me to fulfil his will.”

Some believe the £1million statue will bring more visitors to the area.

But others say the money would have been better spent elsewhere.

Aiming With Jesus

Michigan defense contractor has God in its sights

Combat rifle sights used by U.S. forces in Iraq and Afghanistan carry references to Bible verses, stoking concerns about whether the inscriptions break a government rule that bars proselytizing by American troops.

Military officials said the citations don’t violate the ban and they won’t stop using the telescoping sights, which allow troops to pinpoint the enemy day or night.

The contractor that makes the equipment, Trijicon of Wixom, Mich., said the U.S. military has been a customer since 1995 and the company has never received any complaints about the Scripture citations.

“We don’t publicize this,” Tom Munson, Trijicon’s director of sales and marketing, said in an interview. “It’s not something we make a big deal out of. But when asked, we say, ‘Yes, it’s there.'”

The inscriptions are subtle and appear in raised lettering at the end of the stock number. Trijicon’s rifle sights use tritium, a radioactive form of hydrogen, to create light and help shooters hit what they’re aiming for.

Markings on the Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight, which is standard issue to U.S. special operations forces, include “JN8:12,” a reference to John 8:12: “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.‘”

The Trijicon Reflex sight is stamped with 2COR4:6, a reference to part of the second letter of Paul to the Corinthians: “For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.”

Wixom firm defends rifle sights with Bible verses

A Wixom-based company, Trijicon, that makes weapons for the U.S. military has come under fire for inscribing biblical references on rifle sights it produces.

But the company defended the practice, saying in a statement released today that “as part of our faith and our belief in service to our country, Trijicon has put scripture references on our products for more than two decades.”

“For two generations our Michigan-based family owned business has been working to provide America’s military men and women with high quality, innovative sighting systems for the weapons they use,” the company said in a statement released by Levick Strategic Communications in Washington D.C.

“Our effort is simple and straightforward: to help our servicemen and women win the war on terror and come home safe to their families. … As long as we have men and women in danger, we will continue to do everything we can to provide them with both state-of-the-art technology and the never-ending support and prayers of a grateful nation.

It’s real hard for me to get worked up over this. It’s just a small, unpublicized code stamped into the casing at the end of the stock number, not whole Bible verses. That it took two decades for someone to figure it out and complain about it shows just how much of a tempest in a teapot this issue is. Our money has references to God all over it, yet we still carry it around every day.

Actually, if you read the Bible verses referred to by the codes, it’s pretty clever. They refer to light out of darkness. Light amplification sights, light out of darkness, get it?

Christmas In Bethlehem

Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem Fouad Twal carries the statuette of baby Jesus during Midnight Mass ceremony which marks the beginning of Christmas Day at the Church of the Nativity in the West Bank town of Bethlehem on Dec 24, 2009.

Pilgrims crowd Bethlehem on warm Christmas eve

Thousands of pilgrims and dignitaries crowded into Bethlehem’s Church of the Nativity for a Christmas Mass, where Latin Patriarch Fuad al-Tuwal urged visitors to return home bearing a message of peace for the Holy Land.

Entertaining crowds outside, bagpipers played carols and whirling dervishes danced, unfurling giant white skirts embroidered with the word peace in various languages.

Some 15,000 visitors packed into the stone flagged square opposite the small Door of Humility where pilgrims stoop to enter the multi-denominational church, built above the spot where Christians believe Jesus was born.

While much of North America and Europe were gripped in winter’s icy embrace, visitors to Bethlehem were buying chilled fruit juice in Manger Square and stripping off sweaters in the mild weather.

“It’s about 20 degrees (68 Fahrenheit) and it’s a little hard to get that Christmas feeling I’m used to having,” said Phillip Well, 22, from Germany.

Some tourists were bemused by the scene.

“I’m not used to seeing marching bands and scout troops do the Christmas festivities, but it’s entertaining,” said 40-year-old Vijey Raghavan, of San Francisco, California.

Inside the church at midnight mass, monks kept the celebrations traditional with Christmas hymns and al-Tuwal delivered a special Christmas message in six different languages, including Arabic.

Likening modern-day pilgrims to the shepherds who harkened the angel’s message of Jesus’ birth, al-Tuwal extended blessings of reconciliation and hope to families worldwide.

“You can take back with you the desire for peace and work for peace — peace in the Holy Land where the prince of peace was born. And peace to all the world for men and women of goodwill,” he said.

Tourism in Bethlehem has picked up in the past few years, after collapsing during the Palestinian intifada, or uprising, which erupted in 2000. Hotels expect a 60 to 70 percent rise in business this year.

Methuen woman sees Jesus on bottom of her clothes iron

There is one thing that Mary Jo Coady wants to make clear to anyone who hears about her, reads about her, or tries to dismiss her – she is not trying to convince anyone that the bottom of her steam iron truly carries the face of Jesus Christ.

But the image, which bears a striking likeness to popular depictions of Jesus Christ, has had a profound affect on Coady. After a challenging past two years in which her faith waned, Coady, who was raised Catholic, said she feels spiritually uplifted by the startling depiction.

. . .

Coady said she was taken aback when she spotted the image last Sunday while straightening up around the house, but she thought she might be reading too much into it. During a difficult past two years, she has separated from her husband, moved out of the home they owned, and had her hours cutback at the medical facility where she works as a secretary.

Now living with her two college-age daughters, Coady turned to relatives and friends. She posted images of the iron on her Facebook account, and asked for input. Did they see what she saw in the residue on the bottom of her iron?

The answer from her relatives – including her daughters – was unanimous:They all saw Jesus Christ, Coady recalled today. Strengthened by their support, Coady decided to share her story with others, beginning with an article published in today’s edition of the Eagle-Tribune newspaper of Lawrence.

“For me I think it happened for a reason,’’ said Coady. “I think it’s good to share it with other people.
