Kerry’s Powerless America Act

Regulations: Call it cap-and-trade or bait-and-switch, but John Kerry and Joe Lieberman continue to tilt at windmills with a bill to restrain energy growth in the name of saving the planet.

The bill introduced Wednesday and sponsored by the two senators is called the American Power Act, an Orwellian phrase if ever there was one. Like President Obama’s offshore drilling program, for every “incentive” there is a restriction. It’s as if Hamlet were to be appointed Secretary of Energy.

The legislation has little to do with developing America’s vast domestic energy supply. It’s cap-and-trade meets pork-barrel spending. It’s about regulations, restrictions and research. It does not deal with exploiting America’s vast energy reserves but with finding ways to mitigate their alleged harmful effect.

To that end, the bill creates some 60 new agencies and projects to eat up our tax dollars and buy support (see list alongside).

Needless to say, not a single Republican is on board with this job destroying garbage dump. In fact, it’s really hard to find much Democrat support for the bloated, bureaucratic eco-scam either.

/so, Kerry’s Folly is probably dead on arrival for now, however, it’s still best to vote these Democrat nimrods out of majority control of Congress so they can’t resurrect it from the grave

1502 Pages Of Senate Deficit Deepening, Health Care Razing Gibberish

Submitted for your perusal by the Senate Finance committee. But don’t get too attached to this particular heaping helping of nonsense, the Senate Democrats are writing the real bill in secret, behind the closed doors of Harry Reid’s office. And don’t expect to get to read the final version of the health care “reform” bill before the Senate votes on it. The Democrats realize they need to try and ram this travesty through the Senate before the public gets a whiff of all the malodorous [expletive deleted] that’s crammed into it.

Mr. BAUCUS, from the Committee on Finance, reported the following original bill; which was read twice and placed on the calendar.

Read twice, really? I bet it wasn’t even read once all the way through. Here, see if you can wade through this tsunami of legislative jabberwocky.

America’s Healthy Future Act of 2009

Good luck, bring a lunch, leave a trail of bread crumbs.

Finance Committee bill has been filed

Senate Finance Committee members have been notified that the committee’s health reform bill was filed today. S. 1796 weighs in at 1,502 pages, according to a Senate Republican leadership source. It’s still not up yet on the Finance Committee website or Thomas.gov. We’ll post a link as soon as we get one.

UPDATED:

Read the entire 1,502 page Finance bill.

Read a document outlining the concerns of Sens. Kerry, Schumer, Menendez, Stabenow and Rockefeller that the tax on high-end plans will hit plans that are not overly generous.

Read Sen. Rockefeller’s expanded views on reform.

UPDATE 2: The Senate Finance Committee filed its sweeping health care reform bill Monday and its release served largely to highlight the divisions among Democrats over the direction of reform.

The massive, 1,500 page bill is expected to serve as the backbone for Democratic reform efforts going forward and five senators expressed concerns about one of its main provisions, a 40 percent tax on high-end insurance plans.

The tax is designed to pay for reform and lower costs by making the so-called Cadillac plans less attractive for insurers to offer. Under the bill, a plan that costs an individual more than $8,000 and a family more than $21,000 annually would be subject to the tax.

But Democratic Sens. John Kerry, Chuck Schumer, Robert Menendez, Debbie Stabenow and Jay Rockefeller are concerned that the threshold that defines a Cadillac plan is too low and will whack middle-class people.

“We remain concerned that the thresholds are too low and will impact plans that are not overly generous and that in 2019 far too many plans will be impacted by the excise tax. We plan to continue to work with Chairman Baucus on this issue to ensure that provision bends the cost curve, but not at the expense of middle-income Americans,” the senators wrote in a one-page “additional views” document that was released with the bill.

The document is reminiscent of a dissent that is filed with the majority opinion in a court case.

Rockefeller filed his own 13-page additional views document that spelled out his concerns, many of which he aired during the eight-day mark up of the bill. The West Virginia Democrat remains concerns that the bill does not contain a public option; that it does not uniformly apply insurance market reforms and that state-based exchanges designed to help people buy insurance will not be as effective as a single national one.

UPDATE 3: It’s important to remember that the bill won’t exist in this form for long. Senate Majority Leader Reid and Sens. Max Baucus and Chris Dodd along with senior White House aides are merging the Finance and Health Committee legislation into one bill that will be considered on the floor of the Senate. The behind-closed-doors dealings have drawn criticism from Republicans, particularly because President Obama had promised a transparent process and pledged to negotiate the health care bill on C-SPAN.

/the only thing we know for certain at this point is that, whatever rancid health care “reform” sausage finally extrudes out the other end of the Congressional grinder, we’ll all be paying more to wait longer for lower quality health care and trillions of additional dollars will be tacked on to our national debt

Because Destroying U.S. Health Care Is Not Enough

Here come the Democrats with cap and trade, right on cue, hell bent on destroying the U.S. economy, just not until they’re finished destroying the U.S. health care system first. Nevermind that the U.S. can reduce its emissions to zero and it won’t make a bit of difference toward affecting the global climate, so long as China and India don’t play along with the cap and trade scheme, something that both countries have rejected, in no uncertain terms. The only thing unilaterally imposing a cap and trade scheme on the U.S. will accomplish is to raise energy prices for consumers and devastate our economy.

Are Democrats deaf? Don’t they hear the American people emphatically saying no to their budget busting, tax and spend health care and climate change agendas?

Sens. Boxer, Kerry delay climate bill

Sens. Barbara Boxer and John Kerry said Monday the climate bill they are writing would not be finished until later in September.

The bill was expected to be ready when lawmakers returned next week.

“Because of Senator Kennedy’s recent passing, Senator Kerry’s August hip surgery, and the intensive work on healthcare legislation particularly on the Finance Committee where Sen. Kerry serves, Majority Leader Reid has agreed to provide some additional time to work on the final details of our bill, and to reach out to colleagues and important stakeholders,” Sens. Boxer (D-Calif.) and Kerry (D-Mass.) said in a joint statement.

No, c’mon, bring it on! The timing is perfect for spewing forth another massive government boondoggle that’ll cost the American taxpayers trillions of dollars, put the country deeper in debt, and castrate the economy.

Seriously, go ahead and stick your Democrat fingers in the light socket, again. Big bonus points if you can get “card check” on the agenda too.

Obama And The Pirates

This spectacle is turning into a farce. Four terrorists in a lifeboat, holding one hostage, have been keeping a U.S. Destroyer and the entire U.S. government at bay for two days now. For God’s sake Obama, do something!

Obama’s Somali Pirate Hostage Crisis is an ‘Annoying Distraction’

The Somali pirate situation in which the pirates took and then lost an American cargo ship and then took her captain as a hostage is being described as an “annoying distraction” for President Barack Obama.

One wonders how Captain Richard Phillips, now being held at gunpoint in a life boat by Somali pirates in the middle of the Gulf of Aden, would characterize the situation. To be sure, the guided missile destroyer USS Bainbridge in on the scene and a P3 Orion aircraft is monitoring the situation. An FBI hostage negotiation team is providing advice to the US Navy on ways to obtain the release of Captain Phillips without resorting to armed force.

So, Obama’s annoyed, distracted and doing nothing. What about Hillary, what does she think about the first act of piracy against a U.S. flagged vessel in over 200 years?

Clinton says world must end ‘scourge’ of piracy

“We are deeply concerned and we are following it very closely,” Clinton told reporters.

She thinks it’s funny.

The pirates are shaking in their boots. Now go away or Hillary shall taunt you a second time. Let our hostage go or John Kerry will hold hearings!

The U.S. military, well, they’re ready for action, awaiting orders that aren’t forthcoming.

US Navy calls more ships in to Indian Ocean stand-off with Somalian pirates

THE US military on Thursday said it was sending in more ships to the scene of a stand-off with Somalia pirates holding an American hostage on a lifeboat in the Indian Ocean.

A day after pirates hijacked the Maersk Alabama aid ship before being overpowered by the unarmed American crew, the high-seas drama remained unresolved with both the pirates and the US Navy promising to move in reinforcements.

The four pirates were ousted from the 17,500-tonne Danish-operated container ship, but were still holding the captain hostage on a lifeboat.

More naval ships were to join the destroyer USS Bainbridge that arrived overnight to help secure the release of the American, US defence officials said.

I’m not exactly sure what more ships are going to accomplish. I’m pretty sure the Bainbridge can already more than handle four terrorists in a lifeboat. How about if we make the Somali pirates regret the day they were born?

U.S. military already prepared with battle plans for Somalia pirates, say intelligence sources

Retired U.S. Ambassador Robert Oakley, who was special envoy to Somalia in the 1990s, said U.S. special operations forces have drawn up detailed plans to attack piracy groups where they live on land, but are awaiting orders from the Obama national security team.

“Our special operations people have been itching to clean them up. So far, no one has let them,” Oakley told the Daily News.

Scratch military action I guess, that would be mean, and besides, no one’s going to pry Obama’s finger off the chicken[expletive deleted] switch.

What about the pirate terrorists, are they going take the cornering of their comrades lying down and be intimidated by a big bad U.S. destroyer? Hell no!

Somali Pirates Sending Reinforcements to Kidnappers

Somali pirates are sending help to members of their band who hijacked a U.S.-flagged ship this week in the Indian Ocean and are holding the captain hostage, said a member of the group who spoke from shore.

The man, who called himself Da’ud and identified himself as one of the pirates, spoke by phone yesterday from the area of Eyl, Somalia. He said he had been in contact with the four pirates who boarded the Maersk Alabama and who then took the captain hostage on a lifeboat that has stalled off the coast.

How long is Obama going to let this continue? Four pirates in a lifeboat are making a mockery of the entire U.S. government. If our response wasn’t so pathetic, this whole episode could inspire a Broadway musical.

Springtime In Gaza

The usual suspects are out and about enforcing the new U.S. foreign policy, sucks to be Israel in the Obama age.

In Gaza, US lawmakers push for progress

Three US lawmakers, including Sen. John Kerry, visited the Gaza Strip on Thursday, the first trip there by US congressmen in eight years and an indication, according to Rep. Brian Baird, of a change in the US approach to Gaza.

Baird (D-Wash) toured Gaza in the morning together with Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn), Congress’s first Muslim member. They were followed in the afternoon by Kerry (D-Mass), who heads the Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee.

The visits, which were coordinated with Israel, were organized by the United Nations. Except for rare occasions, US embassy and consular officials have been prohibited by Washington from entering Gaza since the 2003 killing of three US security contractors.

Hamas ‘sends Barack Obama letter’

The Palestinian group Hamas has sent a letter addressed to the US president via a US politician visiting Gaza, a senior UN official has said.

UN relief agency chief Karen Abu Zayd told the BBC the letter had been received by the UN and passed on.

She did not say if Senator John Kerry had accepted it, and there were no details about the letter’s contents.

The US views Hamas, which seized control of Gaza in 2007, as a terrorist organisation and will not deal with it.

A former presidential candidate, Mr Kerry was visiting Gaza with US congressmen Brian Baird and Keith Ellison in the first such visit to the Hamas-run Strip since 2007.

Rep. Ellison says he isn’t assigning blame, but finds destruction hard to understand

Rep. Keith Ellison, one of the first high-level U.S. officials to enter the Gaza Strip in more than three years, said he is haunted by the scenes of destruction from Israel’s recent military incursion.

“I have an image of a woman sitting in the rubble of her home burned in my head,” the Minnesota Democrat said in a cell phone interview Thursday on his way back to an Israeli check-point.

/gee, I wonder if Keith has the Hamas Charter and it’s call for the destruction of Israel burned in his head, and whether he agrees with it?
