Two Less Al Qaeda In My Neck Of The Woods

Unfortunately, this is just the tip of the iceberg. For several years now, U.S. Somali citizens have been recruited in Minnesota and have traveled to Somalia to train and fight with al Qaeda. The big problem with that is, as U.S. citizens, there’s nothing stopping these newly minted terrorists from bringing their al Qaeda training back home and carrying out terrorist attacks here, in Minnesota or elsewhere in the country. They certainly have a strong, established support base here, a close knit Somali community that isn’t particularly loyal to the United States and what it stands for.

2 Minnesota Women Convicted of Funneling Money to Terror Group in Somalia

Two Minnesota women who claimed they were helping the poor in Somalia were convicted Thursday of conspiring to funnel money to a terrorist group as part of what prosecutors called a “deadly pipeline” sending funds and fighters to al-Shabab.

After the verdicts, one of the women, Amina Farah Ali, told the judge through an interpreter that she was happy because she was “going to heaven no matter what,” and condemned those in authority, saying: “You will go to hell.” She was ordered into custody pending her sentencing.

Ali, 35, and Hawo Mohamed Hassan, 64, were each charged with conspiracy to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization. Ali also faced 12 counts of providing such support, for allegedly sending more than $8,600 to al-Shabab from September 2008 through July 2009, while Hassan faced two counts of lying to the FBI.

Both were found guilty on all counts. The terrorism-related counts each carry up to 15 years in prison, while lying to the FBI carries up to eight years. No sentencing date was set, and prosecutors said it was too early to predict what sentence they’d recommend.

Over the centuries, Minnesota has been a veritable melting pot for a plethora of immigrant groups, Germans, Hmong, Latinos, Norwegians, Swedes, you name it. Yet only the Somalis are actively involved in terrorism, why might that be, what sets the Somalis apart from all the other immigrant groups that have settled in Minnesota throughout history?

Beat Down In Belarus

It was a good day for Europe’s last dictator, not so much for democracy.

Belarus election ends in protests, police crackdown

Following a night of violence and mass arrests in Minsk, Belarus, the state-dominated media on Monday declared that Alexander Lukashenko, the Belarussian leader who’s often described as “Europe’s last dictator,” has been reelected to an unprecedented fourth term with a 79.7 percent majority of the votes. None of his eight opponents won more than 3 percent.

After state-conducted exit polls indicated the scope of Mr. Lukashenko’s triumph Sunday night, an estimated 20,000 opposition supporters attempted to rally on Minsk’s central Independence Square to protest what they allege to be systematic fraud in the electoral process – as they did under almost identical circumstances in previous presidential polls four years ago.

But this time, authorities reacted with a harshness unseen in the past. An attempt by some opposition supporters to storm the Central Electoral Commission headquarters failed to get past massed ranks of police. Special riot squads then charged into the crowd, using batons and stun grenades, arresting 600 and injuring dozens.

During the night, Belarus’s KGB security forces swept through Minsk, arresting six opposition candidates along with scores of their supporters in an operation that continued in full swing Monday. Two of the candidates, Nikolai Statkevich and Vladimir Neklyaev, claimed they were beaten by special police before being taken to prison. The arrested leaders could face jail terms of up to 15 years.

Fannie and Freddie support may reach $363 billion by 2013

Mortgage finance giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac could need as much as $363 billion in government payments by 2013, regulators said Thursday.

The Treasury Department has pumped $148 billion into the agencies since the government took them over in 2008.

The new projections by the Federal Housing Finance Agency, based on a series of assumptions about home prices, indicate that Fannie and Freddie will require an additional $73 billion to $215 billion before 2013.

Lady Al Qaeda Goes To Jail, Pakistan Seethes

Remember boys and girls, Pakistan is our ally.

Pakistani Woman Sentenced for Attacks on U.S. Troops

A suspected al-Qaeda agent was sentenced yesterday to more than eight decades in U.S. prison for the July 2008 attempted killings of U.S. troops, Agence France-Presse reported. At the time of the MIT-educated neuroscientist’s arrest, she was reportedly in possession of instructions for making a radiological “dirty bomb” (see GSN, Feb. 4).

Pakistani-born Aafia Siddiqui was convicted in U.S. federal court in February for the attempted shootings of several U.S. soldiers and FBI agents interrogating her in an Afghan police station. The 38-year-old mother of three was charged with seizing a serviceman’s rifle and opening fire while yelling “death to America,” though no one was struck by the bullets. Siddiqui took a bullet to the stomach before she was restrained.

. . .

Among her possessions at the time of her 2008 arrest in Afghanistan were documents referring to a “mass casualty attack” on New York City and containers filled with sodium cyanide, the Associated Press reported (Tom Hays, Associated Press/Philadelphia Inquirer, Sept. 24).

So, she was an al Qaeda operative who tried to kill American soldiers while screaming “death to America” and had in her possession plans and materials for a dirty bomb attack on New York City. You’d think our close ally Pakistan would be glad and grateful that this terrorist scum menace is off the streets for the next 86 years, right? Well, you couldn’t be more wrong.

Pakistan angry over terror conviction in US

The country’s leaders were quick to show their outrage at the sentence handed down to a Pakistani woman convicted of attacking U.S. agents, as were opposition politicians. By the time weekly prayers rolled round, protesters were battling police and the Pakistani Taliban had offered its support.

The sentencing of Aafia Siddique to 86 years in an American jail left enemies and political opponents reading from the same script Friday, riding a wave of anger on behalf of a woman widely believed to be an innocent victim of a vengeful, post 9/11 American justice system.

Another Day, Another Three Homegrown Jihadis

Of course, they’re only doing what good, devout Muslims do, promote terrorism and the global jihad. Unfortunately for them, providing material support to other Islamists, for the purpose of killing Jews and Infidels, Islamic activities sanctioned by the Koran, is against U.S. law, not that they believe they’re subject to U.S. law or anything other than Sharia.

First up, we have this lovely Jihadi couple from Ohio.

Ohio couple arrested on terror conspiracy charges

A couple were arrested Thursday on charges they conspired to provide thousands of dollars to a Mideast terrorist group, federal authorities said.

Hor Akl and his wife, Amera Akl, were taken into custody after an FBI informant provided them with $200,000 in cash, which they were preparing to hide in a vehicle that was to be shipped to Lebanon, prosecutors said.

The Akls planned to conceal up to $500,000 so the money could be given to Hezbollah on behalf of anonymous donors in the United States, a court complaint said.

The U.S. government lists Hezbollah as a terrorist organization and blames it for numerous attacks on Israel. Hezbollah has been trying to reinvent itself as a more conventional political movement in Lebanon.

The Akls, both 37 years old, face numerous charges, including conspiracy to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization, which carries a maximum sentence of up 15 years in prison and a fine of $500,000 upon conviction.

Hempstead Man Charged With Supporting Al Qaeda

A Hempstead man is charged with supporting a terrorist organization in the Arabian Peninsula.

Barry Walter Bujol Jr., an American citizen, is accused of providing material support to Al Qaeda as well as aggravated identity theft.

Investigators say Bujol, 29, provided money, pre-paid telephone calling cards, mobile telephone SIM cards, GPS receivers, and military information about unmanned aerial vehicle operations and military weapon systems.

An investigation, started in 2009, revealed Bujol was in contact with Anwar al-Aulaqi, a known associate and propagandist for Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.

Bujol repeatedly told an FBI informant that he wished to fight alongside Al Qaeda in a violent jihad and attempted to travel to Yemen or the Middle East according to court documents.

Bujol was arrested on May 30 when he boarded a ship with intent to deliver materials to Al Qaeda in the Middle East, investigators say.

If convicted, Bujol faces up to 15 years in prison for the supporting terrorism charge and an additional five years for the aggravated identity theft charge.

Gitmo North

As predicted, here they come! Obama’s going to transfer hundreds of the world’s worst al Qaeda terrorists from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to Thomson, Illinois. Obama’s irrational rationale for doing this is that, supposedly, holding al Qaeda prisoners indefinitely at Guantanamo has become “a recruiting tool for terrorists” whereas, somehow, moving them north and holding the same al Qaeda terrorists indefinitely in Illinois will magically placate terrorists worldwide. “See, it’s all good Ahmed, the infidels are indefinitely imprisoning our al Qaeda brothers in Illinois now .”

Obama administration to buy Illinois prison for Guantanamo detainees

President Obama, determined to change U.S. detention policy and shut the prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, pointed Tuesday to a small town in Illinois as a big part of the answer.

A state prison in rural Thomson will be purchased and refitted to house dozens of terrorism suspects now held at Guantanamo Bay, the administration announced. But Obama immediately drew criticism that revealed just how controversial the issue remains.

Republicans in Illinois and in Washington called the president’s move risky and reminded the administration that a congressional vote is required before detainees not facing trial can be held indefinitely on U.S. soil. GOP members of the House will “seek every remedy at our disposal to stop this dangerous plan,” vowed Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio). A vote is weeks or months away, Democrats said.

Civil liberties groups, while embracing the goal of closing Guantanamo Bay, said the administration would be wrong to move prisoners to the heartland without charging them with a crime.

“If Thomson will be used to facilitate their lawful prosecution, then this is truly a positive step,” said Joanne Mariner, counterterrorism director at Human Rights Watch. If not, “President Obama will simply have moved Guantanamo to Illinois.”

White House officials did not say how many inmates are likely to be transferred to the Thomson Correctional Center. Some detainees will be held for trial by military commissions on the prison grounds, while others could be held without charges.

The World’s Worst Al Qaeda Terrorists, Coming Soon To A U.S. City Near You

Mark my words, we’re going to regret this as a nation. Putting any security concerns aside, the biggest downside of moving Gitmo prisoners to Illinois is that the second the al Qaeda terrorists set foot on U.S. soil, the ACLU and sundry other civil liberties groups will start flooding Federal courts with lawyers, trying to pin full U.S. citizenship rights on the tail of each and every one of these detainee donkeys. The legal three ring circus will have officially arrived in town, with Obama and Holder driving the clown car.

/the Obama administration, the dumb ideas just keep on coming, if it’s a really bad policy, they’re all over it like butter on toast

Calling All Conspiracy Theorists Or Scam Artists, Take Your Pick

Hmmm, what’s up with this?

American Police Force Corporation Takes Over Small Town Police Force and Prisoner-Less Jail

This is the strange story of how American Police Force, a little known company which claims to specialize in training military and security forces overseas, has seemingly taken control of a $27 million, never-used jail, and a rural Montana town’s nonexistent police force.

After arriving in this tiny city with three Mercedes SUVs marked with the logo of a police department that has never existed, representatives of the obscure California security company said preparations were under way to take over Hardin’s jail, which has no prisoners.

Significant obstacles remain – including a lack of any contracts to acquire prisoners from other jails or other states.

And on Friday came the revelation the company’s operating agreement for the facility has yet to be validated – two weeks after city leaders first unveiled what they said was a signed agreement.

. . .

The lead public figure for American Police Force, Michael Hilton, said more than 200 employees would be sought for the jail and a proposed military and law enforcement training center.

. . .

But the company’s flashy arrival this week stirred new questions. The logo on the black Mercedes SUVs said “City of Hardin Police Department.”

Yet the city has not had a police force of its own for 30 years.

“Pretty looking police car, ain’t it?” Hardin resident Leroy Frickle, 67, said as he eyed one of the vehicles parked in front of a bed and breakfast where Hilton and other company representatives were staying. “The things you hear about this American Police, I don’t know what to think.”

. . .

Little has been revealed to date about American Police Force. The company was incorporated in California in March, soon after Hardin’s empty jail gained notoriety after city leaders suggested it could be used for the Guantanamo Bay terrorism detainees.

. . .

On Friday, American Police Force announced its first local hire: a reporter for the Billings Gazette, Becky Shay, who has covered events surrounding the jail since its construction. She will be the company’s spokeswoman for $60,000 a year.

Shay said she intended to bring new transparency to the process, but declined to directly answer the first question posed to her: Where is American Police Force getting the money to operate the jail and build the training center?

“I know enough about where the money is coming from to be confident signing on with them,” she said.

Calif. jail entrepreneur has checkered past

Michael Hilton pitched himself to officials in Hardin, Mont. as a military veteran turned private sector entrepreneur, a California defense contractor with extensive government contracts who promised to turn the rural city’s empty jail into a cash cow.

Hardin’s leaders were desperate to fill the $27 million jail, which has sat empty since its 2007 completion.

So when Hilton came to town last week — wearing a military-style uniform and offering three Mercedes SUVs for use by local law enforcement — he was greeted with hugs by some grateful residents. The promise of more than 200 new jobs for a community struggling long before the recession hit had won them over.

But public documents and interviews with Hilton’s associates and legal adversaries offer a different picture, that of a convicted felon with a number of aliases, a string of legal judgments against him, two bankruptcies and a decades-long reputation for deals gone bad.

American Police Force is the company Hilton formed in March to take over the Hardin jail.

“Such schemes you cannot believe,” said Joseph Carella, an Orange County, Calif. doctor and co-defendant with Hilton in a real estate fraud case that resulted in a civil judgment against Hilton and several others.

“The guy’s brilliant. If he had been able to do honest work, he probably would have been a gazillionaire,” Carella said.

Court documents show Hilton has outstanding judgments against him in three civil cases totaling more than $840,000.

As for Hilton’s military expertise, including his claim to have advised forces in Iraq and Afghanistan, those interviewed knew of no such feats. Instead, Hilton was described alternately by those who know him as an arts dealer, cook, restaurant owner, land developer, loan broker and car salesman — always with a moneymaking scheme in the works.

Hilton did not return several calls seeking comment. American Police Force attorney Maziar Mafi referred questions to company spokeswoman Becky Shay.

When asked about court records detailing Hilton’s past, Shay replied, “The documents speak for themselves. If anyone has found public documents, the documents are what they are.”

Shay declined comment on Hilton’s military experience.
